i am thinking that each tire was on for four-fifth of the miles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and four fifth of 30,000 is 24,000

could you show full work and answer?

i didn't really do any work. you have 5 tires and four are on at any one time, one is off. so i figured that each one is off 1/5 of the time and therefore each is on 4/5 of the time. the only "math" i did besides thinking was to compute \[\frac{4}{5}\times 30,000=24,000\]
