What is the general way in which metals and non metals react with acids?

Acids are acids because they have H+ ions in concentration. Let's take a metal like Na and react it with HCl. Na+HCl --> NaCl + H+ (reduction reaction) If we take a non-metal like F. F+HCl --> FH + Cl- (oxidation reaction)
