about 24 hours in the abdomen of a woman. however, most of them are flushed out before that. actually, the more interesting question is, why can't two or more sperm cells enter the egg cell?

the answer is: upon entering the egg, the spermium triggers the release of calcium, cancelling the possibility for any other sperm cell to enter after the first one does.
