Can someone help me with differential equations? Can someone help me with differential equations? @Mathematics
I may be able to, what's your question?
I'm doing power series. Is the derivative method still viable if you dont have initial conditions. I haven't seen a questions answered with the derivative method without having initial conditions.
Say you have y'' - 3y=0 but not y(x)=? and y'(x)= ?
Sorry, I don't feel like I'm adept to answer that This may help though http://www.math.uah.edu/~howell/DEtext/Part5/PSsoln1.pdf if you search in the document for "For our example,we have no initial values at any point" I think it pertains to your question.
for this example you would go y''(x)=3y(x) where y(x)= a0 and y''(x)= a2* 2! You can try to find the solution but then you wouldn't know what a0 or a1 equal so because you can't solve for a0 and a1 wouldnt the series method be a better choice in trying to solve it
