A bird flew 800 m in one direction. It turned around and flew half as far back. Then, it turned around and again flew half as far back. The bird continued this pattern for a total of six flights. How far from its starting point did the bird end up?

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

let "d=distance from start". you can then write the birds six flight as follows:\[d=800-400+200-100+50-25\]that should give you the answer. you may be able to spot a pattern here and come up with a formulae for "n" flights.
