how can I tell if this is a function by the given info???- {(6,3), (5,2), (2,-3), (12,-12)} how can I tell if this is a function by the given info???- {(6,3), (5,2), (2,-3), (12,-12)} @Mathematics
plot it? If it passes the vertical line test it is a function.
the thing is, i did, and it wasnt, but on the answer key my teacher gave us, she said it was...
looks lit it is to me..sloping down to the left..
oh..wait 12,-12 does not
yeah, it makes a c shape, so its not, but on the answer key it says it is a function
Not sure what the criteria for the plot are. Is this an ordered set?
idk if im wrong or she is
yes, we were given the #'s and told to give the domain (6, 5, 2, 12) and Range (3,2,-3,-12) and say if it was a function
Criteria for a function is just that for each x value there is a unique y value. So by that logic no Y values repeat so it could be a function
a function does not have to be a straight line....these points are not in order so dont think about connecting the dots in order
all she put on the answer key was D- {6,5,2,12} R- {3,2,-3,-12} yes
okay, i guess i was just a little confused, but that makes ore sense.. thanks so much! haha ur the only person who even looked at my question
glad to help
check to see that the first numbers do not repeat. that is all you need. if they repeat, not a function, if they do not repeat, function
it makes no difference if the "y values" repeats or not. you could have {(0,1),(1,1),(2,1),(3,1),(4,1)} and it is still a function because all x values are different.
correct poorly worded on my part...should have stuck with unique values of y for each value of x
