Where should the fulcrum be placed so that a 5 pound weight and a 10 pound weight will balance when placed at opposite ends of a lever that is 5 meters long? Here's what I have so far: 6cm 5__________10 x ^ y x + y = 6 --> x = 6 - y 5x = 10y --> 5(6-y) = 10y -->30 – 5y = 10y -->30 = 15y --> y=2 x + 2 = 6 --> x = 4 The answers will be 4 and 2, right? But, there's only one line for one answer on my paper. Is it a possibility that there are two answers? Maybe I made a mistake in setting up the equations?
