I am writing a paper on heat flow and heat loss in a building. Do you know what concept to concentrate on when writing about heat loss?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You should include heat loss by the processes of convection and conduction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is there anything else to write about?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You should first do the research, what is heat flow? What are the types of heat flow? What is heat loss? How is heat lost? What ways you can stop heat loss? What are the cost savings? etc.

OpenStudy (turingtest):

windows in buildings tend to be a primary source of heat loss, just to give your project a different angle.

heat will go/flow from higher potential to lower potential (hotter object to colder object), therefore if you have two objects heat lost of one object (hotter object) is equal to amount of heat gain by the colder object... like putting ice in a hot cup of coffee. i guess you can calculate out the temperature of the atmosphere surrounding that building, openings (windows) of the building and see how heat within the building can be lost through the opening... this is just how i would approach it. there might be better ways. what temperature do you want to maintained in the building? and how high does the heater have to be on to accommodation the heat lost due to openings... there is also the material that the building is made out of. certain material absorbs heat better than others, certain material retain heat better than others.
