? this a general question? you are approximating something with a line. lots of limitations. the line could only be close to what you are approximating for very close values.
and if your function has no derivative then you cannot use it at all. i am not sure exactly what the question is asking

It is an approximation. You will get values close to what you want where the linear approximation is close to the function you are trying to estimate, but the farther away you get, the worse your answer will be.
