You're probably aware that MIT 6.00 uses the Python programming language to teach elementary Computer Science.

In the cs50 course opencourseware by Harvard that I just linked, they use multiple languages beginning with C, and then going through HTML, PHP, JavaScript, etc.

I think the cs50 course is more 'in depth', while the MIT course covers some higher level CS concepts, but if you work through either of them you will have a solid understanding of basic computer science.
