Find the value of x and y.

OpenStudy (geometry_hater):

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

use tan x = opp/adj for y and sin x = opp/hyp for x

OpenStudy (geometry_hater):

tan?

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

Yea, never heard of it? :O

OpenStudy (geometry_hater):

which one is the opposite and adjacent part of the triangle?

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

|dw:1321310076163:dw|

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

in the diagram I just drew: 1. 'a' is the side opposite to the angle alpha 2. 'b' is the side that is adjacent to alpha 3. 'c' is the hypotenuse the hypotenuse is NEVER used as an adjacent side.

OpenStudy (geometry_hater):

oh ok but the answers on my homework have square roots of 3 at the end what does that mean?

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

we can then formulate some trigonometry relations: 1. tan(alpha) = a/b 2. sin(alpha) = a/c 3. cos(alpha) = b/c

OpenStudy (geometry_hater):

btw this is multiple choice
