On a sunny day around noon, a tree casts a shadow that is 12 feet long. At the same time, a person who is 6 feet tall standing beside the tree cast a shadow that is 2 feet long. How tall is the tree?

well, if you use proportions: 12/x = 6/2 and cross multiplying you get: 24=6x and if you divide: 4=x, x=4.
