Which is a possible value for x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

17 = x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3x - 4 = 47 Then solve for x: add 4 to both sides, 3x = 51 then divide by 3 x= 17

I was told that such answer is wrong. I can't figure out why and what the right answer is!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am staring at it and can't figure out why that would be the wrong answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I see what you're saying because the two sides are of unequal length

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They are unequal. But, it is an isosceles trepezoid. So, your calculation (same one I am getting) should be right. But, a similar problem I provided an answer to was ruled "wrong". I am torn.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would assume the answer would be right as well. let me try to use some trig to see if i can get a different answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just take cos47 = 16/h solve for h; h= ~21.88 then inv sin( 13/h) = 36.48 degrees. So set 3x - 4 = 36.48 and x ~ 13.49
