Inflection points occur frequently in real life. For example, they occur when the price charged changes based on consumption. Or, cost to produce changes based on quantity.

For example, my utility company may charge $1 per kwh up to 100kwh power consumption. Then, they may charge $2 per kwh. There is an inflection point.
