do you mean \[9-(y+8)/8=3\]?
no y+8 is over 8
so, 9-(y+8)/8=3 first subtract 3 from both sides 9-3-(y+8)/8=3-3 6-(y+8)/8=0 then add (y+8)/8 to both sides 6=(y+8)/8 multiply both sides by 8 48=y+8 y=40
thank you
72-y-8=24 72-32=y y=40
