Here is my question: (will have to type so be patient with me lol :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(x-1)^{2}=8\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use square root property to solve equation, show me how, please? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would take the square root of both sides

OpenStudy (ash2326):

x-1=sqrt(8) x-1=2.828 x=3.828

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i know there are two answers? just not sure how to get em.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x=1 \pm \sqrt8\]

OpenStudy (ash2326):

x-1=+sqrt(8) or -sqrt(8) x-1=2.828 or -2.828 x=1+2.828 or 1-2.828 x=3.828 or -1.828

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks Sarah :) that looks right, how did you get it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(x-1)^2 =8\]take the squareroot of both sides\[x-1=\pm \sqrt8\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x=1 \pm \sqrt8\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it told me it wants the answer to look like this?---> example 3+5 and the square?
