Well, depends on what the exercise's asking for, really. If it's asking just "Look at the equation and guess by the look". You could say.. "Well, the first one is a line indeed, while the second one must be a hyperbola!" If it's asking to graph it by studying it, you will have to check for the domain, continuity, derivability, etc. If it's asking to stick in a point and give me the y so I can connect the dots, well.. you can do that :)...
