It depends on what kinds of author you are going to analyze, but still, there are some general topics that you should cover with. Say, the author's background, what's important to him, and what happend during his/her early life, cause these factors will usually influence the author's works later. Other common topics you could feature in your paper include the outline of their works, the distinct character of their works, and what's their values toward the life in their period. Also, you should pay especially attention about the culture in the author's days, cause we always affected by the culture, politic, policy etc. these will affect us just like our family affect us.
