In 1911, a critical event happened, the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire...where 146 workers, many women, some as young as 14, all died due to the exits being locked by the owners. After that, Elanor Roosevelt began championing labor rights and in the first success, her husband passed into law the Commission of Labor which began investigating the conditions of women and children in the work place. This pressure was the first step in workplace safety reforms.
