size inches cm 7 22 56 H C 54 let H = the missing hat size; let C = the missing head circumference in inches Assume a linear relationship between cm and inches and cm and hat size. Then we can set up proportions. To find the missing circumference in inches, C:\[\frac{22}{56}=\frac{C}{54}\]Solving for C by cross multiplying we get\[C=\frac{54*22}{56}=21.21...\]The stupid tables tells us to round to the nearest fifth, thus\[C=21.2=21\frac{1}{5}\]While you are looking at this I will type up the other solution for H.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 21 1/5 is the answer for "C"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let H = the missing hat size Again we assume a linear relationship between cm and hat size, so we can set up a proportion:\[\frac{7}{56}=\frac{H}{54}\]Solving for H we get\[H=\frac{7*54}{56}=6.75\]The stupid table tells us that we should round to the nearest eigth. The .75 means 3/4; if we multiply to get a denominator of 8 we get\[\frac{3}{4}*\frac{2}{2}=\frac{6}{8}\]So the missing hat size, to the nearest eigth would be\[H=6\frac{6}{8}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answers are \[C=21\frac{1}{5}\]\[H=6\frac{6}{8}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you good? I know that it is a long solution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah THX ALOT 4 the help!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

H=6 3/4 NOT 6 6/8
