They are around finding what isnt necessary in the cell. They are the garbage disposal of the cell that has hydrolytic enzymes [enzymes that break up a molecule aka lygase].

They are also known as the suicidal bags of the cell. When the cell dies, they scatter enzymes which digest their own cell.
