state which statement is true and give reasons to support ur ans.. A)all enzymes are proteins but all protein are not enzymes b)almost all enzymes are protein but all protein are not enzymes
The answer is a, all enzymes are proteins but not all proteins are enzymes. Proteins do everything - everything - inside cells. Enzymes are just a subset of proteins which catalyze reactions. Their names almost always end in the suffix "-ase" and include the names of the reactants or products. For example, kinases phosphorylate. Hexokinase catalyzes the reaction of a hexose sugar. Phosphotidylinositol 1,4,5-tris-phosphatase removes phosphate groups from a specific type of phosopholipid - the list is long. But a lot of the work done in cells is not catalysis. Types of proteins called porins let water and other substances through membranes; transcription factors bind to DNA and regulate genes; structural protiens like actin and myosin support the cell membrane and function in cell mobility; chaperone proteins modulate the folding of other proteins; some proteins like cytokines function in intercellular signalling; other proteins act as scaffolds or binding sites for other proteins - that list is even longer.
then what about rizozymes they are not protein but they are enzyme????
Some RNA molecules have can catalyze reactions too. RNA isn't like DNA in that its structures and hence its functions are very widely variable.
so then the second statement must be correct by luking dis point isntd??
No, all enzymes are proteins. It's just impossible to come with any law or rule in biology and have it be precisely right all of the time.
ok.. till 1998 it was said that all enzymes are proteins but after discovery of ribozymes the second statement is accepted by the scientist. just want to shsare thiss thing dats y i posted this ques. :)
So you're asking questions to which you already know the answer and seeing if people get them right. Gottcha.
no i post quess here so the people will search nd get new things to know ... just a way to xpand knwledge by discussing and sharing :)
