Why did taxes imposed by Britain anger the colonists?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because the colonists left Britain to escape persecution and wanted freedom to live their lives as they pleased. Being taxed by the British was the opposite of that. They believed they were their own people.

Today taxes are also a real discomfort is the difference we pay more and we do not have the right figure is our next attacker who exploits us. The answer may vary from country to country as I am in Brazil tried to put a answer from my reality [the Brazilian] Portugal charged 20% tax now we pay about 60%

The colonists didn't want to be controled by Britain and didn't want to pay them.

The taxes really wasn't the problem. The problem was that they did not have any Representation of the taxes.
