Please help with this question PQ = 10 yds, OS = 34 yds and ON = 30 yds. Find PR.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are we allowed to assume that the triangles are similar, and that PQ and ON are perpendicular to the ground?

OpenStudy (geometry_hater):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then the ratio of ON to OS should be equal to the ratio of PQ to PR. In maths terms: \[\frac{|ON|}{|OS|} = \frac{|PQ|}{|PR|}\], which is just the rule for similar triangles (for fun, prove this is true by using the sin rule, or the trig identities).

OpenStudy (geometry_hater):

so what is the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just plug your numbers into the formula, and you'll get your answer :P
