OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

A scale drawing has a scale of 1/4 inches:12 ft. Find the length on the drawing for each actual length. 1. 8 ft

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so 1/4 of an inch goes to 12 feet. what's the ratio between those?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, can you come up with a single number that represents the ratio between the two? Note you'll have to do a unit conversion.

OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for example if the scale were 2 inches : 6 inches, the ratio would be 6 inches/ 2 inches = 3, i.e. things in real life are 3x as big as they are on the map. can you compute a similar ratio for your problem?

OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

try proportions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry, I don't understand what you mean by that

OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

you mean to make equivalent fractions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

i got for my answer 384 ft

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep that's correct

OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

ok i think i got it

OpenStudy (mathhelp346):

thanks
