Americans pronounce every syllable. We are hard on the R's (arrrrr). It is kind of monotone, I agree. It is quite hard for an American to say what our accent is like, since most don't even realize. I think the consonants are very hard in American English, and we don't linger on certain syllables like I think Australians might.

Watch some news shows and listen to the anchors to see how Americans speak.
