Question

I'm writing a 5-7 pages 'causes and effects' essay on APA style about "What's the cost of incarceration?" and "Why it's so high?"
I have no 'clue' how to begin writing this paper. It's a final research paper.
It's my first semester in school and I never really wrote an essay paper before. Do you have an outline... or questions... that I can use as a guideline when writing a paper? Thank you very much.

Well, of course, you start off with an introduction. You need to tell the reader what your paper will be about. Set your hypothesis or theory.

You can begin with words like... "Since [year] the costs of incarceration increased due to [reason 1], [reason 2] and [reason 3]..."

You give some numbers... by how much did those costs increase? Is there a way to lower those costs in the future?

When speaking about the organization of the paper. If you write let's say... 7 pages. Then the introduction could be one page or slightly less. Conclusion 1-2 pages. The rest is the body. The body of the essay can be organized in various ways.
