combining like terms simplify each expression -3x -9 + 15x =12x+ -9 is this correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-3x -9 + 15x =12x+ -9 I would agree as we have -3x and 15x so we have 12x in total

OpenStudy (turingtest):

I should point out that it is convention to write 12x+-9 as 12x-9

Ok thank you
