What are some of the major groups that settled in Canada?

Although explorers were first looking for a way to the "Orient" as well as resources to exploit, they weren't too interested in settling. The first people who came to establish some kind of permanent base were from France and England. They were interested in the rich fur resources available. Of course, the First Nations people were here long before any of the Europeans showed up. Some estimates say that the history of aboriginal people in North American dates back as much as 25,000 years. Population estimates vary, but I think it's safe to say there were millions of people living on this land before Europeans introduced new diseases to which the aboriginal peoples had no immunities. Up to 90% of populations were decimated; cities became ghost towns and whole communities were wiped out.
