difference between tranverse wave and longitudenal waves???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In transverse wave, the movement of atoms is perpendicular to the direction of the wave. In longitudinal wave, the direction of movement of atoms is same as the direction of the wave. Also, transverse waves can travel only in solids, whereas longitudinal waves can travel in any medium.
