Scientists can trace the steps of a biological process using small amounts of radioactive atoms. These radioactive atoms are followed as they undergo chemical changes and reactions, even when passed from one organism to another. Assignment You will trace the path of a labeled carbon atom through the biological processes of photosynthesis and respiration. The atom will start its journey inside a carbon dioxide molecule and it will end in the air inside a new carbon dioxide molecule. Your mission is to use your knowledge of photosynthesis and respiration to explain wht happens to the carbon atom
yeah well, use it! :-) I can give you a hint though. the stations are: Molecule Commentary CO2 fixated through Rubisco 3-Phosphoglyceric acid through an instabile intermediate 1,3-Bisphophoglyceric acid ...and even more energetic... Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate gluconeogenesis from here on Fructose-1,6-bisphosphate Fructose-6-Phosphate Glucose-6-Phosphate GLUCOSE there, your intermediate product. Glucose-6-Phosphate glycolysis is in general GNG reversed Fructose-6-Phosphate Fructose-1,6-bisphosphate Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate 1,3-Bisphophoglyceric acid 3-Phosphoglyceric acid 2-Phosphoglyceric acid phosphoenolpyruvate pyruvate end of glycolysis. but not your pathway... acetyl-CoA though pyruvate decarboxylation Citrate KREBS-cycle! your atom actually cis-aconitate goes 3 times around this cycle before Isocitrate being put into CO2! (CO2) first possibility of CO2 formation! alpha-Ketoglutarate second CO2 formation on the way (CO2) to Succinyl-CoA Succinyl-CoA since you need the whole cycle Succinate I will list the remaining molecules. Fumarate Malate Oxalacetate Citrate ...and the cycle begins anew. Remember: your carbon atom will complete the Krebs cycle two times completely before being put into carbon dioxide. but these are all stations that I know of that have to do with photosynthesis and respiration. I hope I could help you - and any other guys that have this question. :-)
i dont understand this answer..im doing the same thing its really hard.
Same here
im lost
