tasha puts a small block of wood on a smooth surface. she puts different forces on the block. will the block move to the left or right or stay still if she puts 5N (force) to the right of the block??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

small block has mass??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

becoz if the static friction is less then the applied force then block will move in the direction of force applied but if the static friction is more than the applied force then it will not move as u read static friction is adjustable.

OpenStudy (ash2326):

it'll move to the right, as it's given it is kept on smooth surface

OpenStudy (ash2326):

assuming friction to be less than force applied or zero
