5/y-8

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

What are you supposed to do with that?

OpenStudy (ash2326):

5/y-8=0 5-8y=0 y=5/8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find all numbers for which the rational expression is undefined

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

So it's really \[\dfrac{5}{y-8}\] ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (ash2326):

ok that would be when denominator is 0 so y=8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you draw out how you figured that out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

please

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

Ok. :) So "rational" means "fraction" and "undefined" means "whenever the denominator (bottom) is ZERO". So basically what value of y makes... y - 8 = 0 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o,ok thank you
