here are two decent pictures of $$y=2^x$$ you can see that it crosses the y - axis at $$(0,1)$$ and that is because $$2^0=1$$ the second picture shows you that the asymptote is y = 0 aka the x - axis http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=y+%3D+2^x
