Color-blindness is a sex-linked recessive disorder.A heterozygous female mates with a male with a colorblind male. What are the chances of this couple having a child who is color-blind? )What are the chances of this couple having a girl who is color-blind? What are the chances of this couple having a boy who is color-blind?

ask Gregor Mendel.......... :) I havent gotten there yet in biology so I cant help much. mayb u can check google or ur txt book?

OpenStudy (matt101):

Since it's an X-linked recessive disorder, I'll call the wild-type allele X and the mutant allele x. Therefore, the woman has the genotype Xx and the man has the genotype xY. The possible genotypes of the children that can be produced from this cross are XY, xY, Xx, or xx (you can draw out a Punnett square to show yourself). Only xY and xx are colourblind (the others have the dominant allele that gives the normal phenotype), so there is a 1/2 chance of producing a colourblind child. Similarly, you can see that xY is a boy and xx is a girl, and since there are four possible genotypes, there is a 1/4 chance of having a colourblind boy and a 1/4 chance of having a colourblind girl. As an aside, Gregor Mendel wouldn't be much help...he didn't know anything about the molecular mechanism for inheritance and didn't do anything with sex-linked traits. But I think he would've found this pretty cool anyways.

:) I just thought it was Mendel b/c he talkied about genetics. Therefore we have Mendelian genetics. u r right tho....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i agree bob06 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, but matt is correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lolz.. i know matt is corect :))
