35 or...

10

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

first find BC using Pythagorus

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

then for the smaller right triangles, you know:\[AD^2+BD^2=15^2\]\[CD^2+BD^2=BC^2\]\[AD+CD=25\]you then have enough equations to be able to work out what AD is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1322434104926:dw| start by using the Pythagorean theorem to find BC : 15^2 + BC^2 = 25^2 now move the 15^2 over to the other side by subtraction : BC^2 = 10^2 now take the square root of each to remove the squares : BC = 10 so, now you need to find AD
