OpenStudy (anonymous):

to which base?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no base

OpenStudy (anonymous):

log always has a base

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\log_{5}81\]

OpenStudy (phi):

If not given, the base is usually assumed to be 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I disagree, in the realm I work, it is assumed to be 2. This is because i work in computer science. Often in mathematical realms, the assumed base is e. Perhaps at high school or lower it is assumed to be 10, though.

OpenStudy (phi):

except in older texts, ln denotes log_e, log denotes log_10, log_2 denotes base 2 (unless it is understood by context to be some other base)
