compute \[b^2-4ac\] and then make sure \[b^2-4ac<0\]
\[1-4(-\frac{1}{4})C<0\] \[1+C<0\] \[C<-1\]
sorry should be \[C\leq -1\] so -1 would give a real solution but -7 would not
