Does anyone use VIM editor? What do you think about it? Is it best editor?
VIM is an excellent editor if you never want to have to use your mouse to navigate your document. There are a lot of people who use it for development (i.e. shadowfiend, actually), but I prefer more conventional editors because I've never taken the time to learn all the different commands. From what I understand, once you learn all of the commands - you should be able to do any task in vim faster than you could in any other editor... but there will be some frustration while you're learning the commands.
The answer to your question is yes.
:p
I'm a vim fan for life :) But it depends on the person. I would dedicate one or two weeks to learning and trying to get used to vim. At the end of it, you can decide if you like it or not.
we will have informal lesson by students about it in few days and i just briefly looked at it and it's horrible but reviews are great :D
Lol. Nice.
I heard emacs is better.
Nyooooo! :p
You heard wrong. :)
vi is found on most *nixes. It's lightweight enough to be put on a decent sized root partition. emacs is a full IDE, but isn't standard on many *nixes, and it is a bit resource intensive. The availability of vi on the Irix boxes at work when I started is what switched me over. The fact that vi can go on a root partition really came home after I had to edit a logical volume with ed. I didn't enjoy ed much.
ed... Scares me... :p
emacs is the best
