Hi, can I ask a question in a research paper? As an example, "with all of the evidence presented, how can a person be in such denial?" Thanks

If it is a formal research paper, you would not say it like that. You would probably use passive voice and say, "Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary the person was not convinced" or "It is surprising that the overwhelming evidence to the contrary did not succeed in convincing the person." I think you will want to find a better word for "person". I don't know your context.
