Help with Parametric Equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need help with example #11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand what the book is saying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whoops I need help with example #12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh that is because this is the easiest one. the others are harder. you already have y in terms of x, i.e. y is a function of x. so if you replace x by t you get \[x=t\] \[y=t^3-t\] you really don't even need the t, but you are making a "parametric equation"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but what is it saying abt going from righ tto left and left to right I am confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for example if i want a parametric equation for \[y=2x+1\] i say \[x=t, y = 2t+1\]and i am done

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but what abt the direction of the curve

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in this case we get a direction because we are thinking of t as "time" apparently and time gets larger.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so since x = t as t gets bigger so does x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is the "left to right" business x is going from left to right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh thanks this book is so annoying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i think that you might have gotten confused because this example was too easy. other were harder

OpenStudy (anonymous):

U R awesome satellite

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ty (blush)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

satellite can you go back to my last question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya thanks sattelite gnite

hero (hero):

rld hates me now. That's more than obvious

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Y wld u say that?

hero (hero):

You're not the only one who has said weird, questionable things

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what weird things did i say?

hero (hero):

Do I even need to say?

hero (hero):

I was on the hot seat earlier

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya tell me i can't figure it out on my own

hero (hero):

I guess you want me to say the forbidden word

hero (hero):

Well, I can't say it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That i nearly got u banned

hero (hero):

Yes

hero (hero):

But I can't understand why you would try such a thing. All I've ever tried to do is help you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh man i was joking. If a/t wld become serious i wld have said the truth

hero (hero):

But then he would have banned you. Then we both would be banned. You can't joke around like that. Owlfred will really ban you

hero (hero):

He's one of the owners of this site

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya i know i doubt he wld have banned

hero (hero):

You apparently don't know.... He's banned everyone who is already banned. You don't hear anything about it because those who are banned are banned forever. Plus they don't who exactly banned them. The person that banned them don't come out and say, "yeah, I banned you". And those who are banned are i.p. banned so it's not like they say "Oh I got banned yesterday". Once they're gone, that's it. You don't hear anything about it. Just because he acts nice, doesn't mean he won't ban anybody.

hero (hero):

Most of the time when he comes on here, he does a greeting and everyone is like "Yay, Owlfred is here". But his real motive is to come on here and see how everyone is doing, and see if everything is going okay. If not, then, he'll be looking for who is causing trouble, and ban them if necessary

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well then I wld stick up for u. And if i get banned then I don't know i wld email theknow

hero (hero):

Well, I'm just warning you just in case you decide to tell another joke about someone while owlfred is here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This site is terrible today

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alrighty i won't do it again

hero (hero):

I'm in safe mode right now, so I'm experiencing zero lag

hero (hero):

And I have sound enabled in safe mode too

hero (hero):

So I can listen to music while I'm on the net

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is safe mode

hero (hero):

Safe mode is a reduced configuration mode that is normally used for troubleshooting purposes. But once they created the a way to enable the network while in safe mode, I started noticing how much better my computer functions in safe mode. There are a lot of services running in the background on your computer when it is in normal mode, cause your computer to function inefficiently. But it safe mode, those services are turned off and only the minimum necessary services run, so your computer functions like new.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i gotta restart the computer and then there are wierd settings for my computer

hero (hero):

There are still a few things you would have to set before running safe mode. The only thing is, Microsoft Office will not run in safe mode. Skype and most other programs will still run in safe mode.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh

hero (hero):

Once I figure out a way to run Microsoft Office in safe mode, I will never need normal mode ever again.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I gotta get back to work otherwise I will never finish

hero (hero):

Okay, good luck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya gnite

OpenStudy (anonymous):

r u mad at me?

hero (hero):

No. I thought you were mad at me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Y cuz i complimented satellite?

hero (hero):

??

hero (hero):

Why would I get mad at you for that?

hero (hero):

I don't care what you do with satellite

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ii don'y know but after that u asked n

OpenStudy (anonymous):

me if i am mad at u

hero (hero):

No, because it seemed like when I came here, at first I saw you and then it seemed like you left when you saw me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i didn't do that at all it may have appeared like that because of how slow my computer is
