Both p.d. & e.m.f. are measured in volts. What is the difference between these concepts...?
both p.d and emf are measured in volts what is the difference between these concepts?
if units are same then it does not mean that quantities should also be same. p.d is the work done to move a charge whereas emf is the force exerted on it
emf is not a force, actually emf stand for electromotive force which people usually misunderstood its a force but it is work done by battery in taking unit +charge form one terminal to the other terminal of a battery and as far as p.d is concerned its also a work that is done by the force generated due to the electric field which in term are generated by the charge accumulated on the terminal of the battery though both magnitude comes out to be same in some cases but both are diff in term of force which perform these work, its conservative in case of electric field and may be conservative or non conservative in case of the force due to chemical reaction(commonly)
p.d is the terminal potentials of battery when it is connected to external circuit while emf is the potential at the terminals of battery when there is no external circuit.emf is not a force.
