Question about appropriateness of content. Per a requirement we are asked to use resources that are within the last five years. I have a current resources that analyse theories from earlier work that is out of the date range. Is it appropriate to cite research that is reviewing another author's research?? Thanks

Because the research is cited in a current study, you can use it. Your reference page should have the current study that you found the older information in, and the older reference should be cited in the context of the paper, but not in your reference list. The Purdue guide for citations should show you the format needed for citing the work of an original study in a current study.
