How can you determine if two lines are parallel? Give an example

OpenStudy (mertsj):

See if they have the same slope. y = 2x -7 if parallel to y = 2x + 3 because both have slope 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

____________ ____________ { these are example of parallel lines, because they do not intersect}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you will first need to prove that they are parallel by various theorems and postulates such as the converse of the alternate interior angles theorem, and others

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what kind of math are you in and what is the specific problem you need help with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Bob, I have algebra 1 and it gets confusing for me with graphing..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mertz and KMcNamara, thanks for the example, greatly appreciated..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Bob, what are theorems and postulates, I'm confused..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey, sorry for the late reply, I had violin lessons and was unable to continue answering questions. Theorems and postulates are what you will find and use in Geometry. This is why I asked what level of math you were in and so I understand why you do not know about theorems and postulates :) hope this helps! -Bob06
