The inverse of the function y = 4x - 1 is y= x-1/4 true or false

OpenStudy (alfie):

In order to find the inverse of a function you find the y in function of x. So all you have to do is to solve for x in this case. See if it matches with the answer.

OpenStudy (alfie):

I'm sorry, the x in function of y :). Solve for x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x=4y-1\] \[x+1=4y\] \[y=(x+1)/4\] which is the same as \[y=x/4+1/4\] so your answer is false.

You switch the x's and y's and then solve for y. Its basically the same thing alfie said - just a different way of looking at it.
