Use the quadratic formula to find exact solutions 9x^2+6x=-5

OpenStudy (lilg132):

do you know about the quadratic formula?

OpenStudy (lilg132):

first you will need to make the equation = 0 to do that you bring the -5 over to the other side which will give you 9x^2 + 6x + 5 = 0 you can also use factorisation but using the formula will get you the answer every time without trial and error

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then do you just solve for x

OpenStudy (lilg132):

well yes but using the quadratic formula and im guessing you know the quadratic formula

OpenStudy (lilg132):

but remember to use the formula you need to first have the equation in order of \[ax ^{2} + bx + c = 0\]

OpenStudy (lilg132):

which we have done

OpenStudy (anonymous):

http://www.purplemath.com/modules/quadform.htm here's a site that explains how to do this kind of problem

OpenStudy (lilg132):

and so now we know the values of a, b and c to put in the formula

OpenStudy (lilg132):

a = 9 b = 6 c = 5
