It's a selective agar for the cultivation of gram-negative bacteria (like salmonella) from all kinds of media, like wastewater. Now the core feature is: lactose-positive bacteria (able to perform lctose fermentation) will receive a red colour on this agar, whereas lac-negative bacteria will remain uncolored.
