How many electrons would you expect carbon to form with other Nonmetal atoms? Why?

OpenStudy (blues):

No atom forms electrons. That being said, carbon has four electrons and needs another four in its outer electron shell to complete its octet; therefore, I'd expect it to share four with other non metals so it can complete that shell.
