Notification or 'beep' sound when someone mentions your name in chat using @, for example I would receive notification if someone said @Tomas.A of course there should be ability to enable/disable this.

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

Great idea!

myininaya (myininaya):

Yes awesome idea!

OpenStudy (espex):

Many IRC clients will highlight the text so your name is easy to pick out of the feed.

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

I like that additional suggestion @eSpeX

myininaya (myininaya):

I wish I was computer smart like espex talking about irc clients :(

OpenStudy (espex):

Nothing to IRC, some basic concepts are all you need really. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah highlighting may come in handy too

hero (hero):

I talk about IRC clients myself, but it doesn't mean I'm computer smart

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

The option to TOGGLE the beep noise would be a must.

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Interesting that there's so much support for this idea. We'll definitely consider it then. And yes, we would never implement such a thing without a toggle ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

However private messages might be kinda bad idea, because top users might receive a lot of messages from those who need help thus decreasing posts if user agrees to help through private messages. But it's your choice.

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

We would figure out a way to limit those, e.g. you can only PM people who are your fans.

OpenStudy (espex):

You would need to ensure a mechanism in place for people to remove a fan if someone became a bit bothering.

OpenStudy (shadowfiend):

Nothing new is needed; the mechanism in this case is that *I* can message *you* only if *you* are *my* fan. So if I'm bothering you, you can just no longer be my fan and I can no longer message you.

hero (hero):

Yup, case closed. Besides, beeping sounds can get quite annoying over time, especially if you have multiple people beeping you every 30 secs.
