What makes an American?

Someone wanted me to give feed back on what they wrote and I wanted to share hear openstudy writing groups comments, inputs, corrections etc

A lot of these are assumptions. Like not all Americans are willing to sacrifice for their country. That may be something that some people perceive as "American" but there is no ultimatum that to be American you need these traits.

Strictly speaking, the only thing that makes you American is identifying yourself as American and having a connection with the nation such as being born here or living here.

If you asking the question of what does society or the American public perceive as traditionally American qualities, then your list would be better. I would just be careful about making these hard statements about what it is to be American. Obviously, such a diverse country has no overall consensus; there is no 5 magic traits that make you an American
